Authorise someone to collect your parcel
While we will always do our best to serve you, sometimes our obligations as agents of Australia Post limit what we can do. When delivering an item, we must verify that the recipient is authorised to collect it. For most items, we refer to Government Issued Photo Identification (eg. Drivers Licence) to confirm that the name and/or the address on the item matches the person collecting it. Alternatively, if we have written authority from the recipient, we can deliver the item to their authorised agent. Unfortunately, some items (eg. mobile phones) must be delivered directly to the person listed on the item. In these cases, there is no way to authorise someone else to collect it for you.
Below are ways you can authorise someone to collect an item on your behalf:
Use the Australia Post App. Learn more about it and download it here
Give your friend the Parcel Collection card left by the Postie with the Authority section completed on the back.
Download an Authority Form (Download a copy here) and give the completed form to your friend to bring into the Post Office.
Give your friend a handwritten letter from you with your written signature authorising them to collect your parcel. The letter must state your name and address, as well as your friend’s name. If you can’t give your friend this letter in person, then take a photo with your phone and text the picture to them. When they come to the post office, we will ask them to text the picture to us so we can keep it in our records. You can also email a scanned copy of this form to us at shop@dunedoopostoffice.com
In every case above, your friend must bring their Photo ID when they collect your parcel. If they can’t identify themselves, we cannot give them your parcel. Only the original physical copy of their ID, or the official digital version in the Services NSW app is acceptable. A photograph of their ID is not acceptable.
We understand that these restrictions can sometimes be frustrating and ask for your patience and understanding. To avoid any confusion, the following are some ways you cannot authorise someone to collect an item for you:
You cannot tell us over the phone
You cannot type out an email (unless it has a scanned image of your written, signed authority attached)
